AIRTEL TANZANIA EMERGES SECOND TOP DIVIDEND CONTRIBUTOR WITH TZS 73.9 BILLION PAYOUT TO THE GOVERNMENT

    

Airtel Tanzania, as the second top dividend contributor nationally for the 2024/25 financial year, presented a TZS 73.9 billion cheque to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, during the Annual Dividends Day ceremony held at the State House in Dar es Salaam. Dar es Salaam, June 10, 2025 – Airtel Tanzania has emerged as the second top dividend contributor to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for the fiscal year 2024/25, presenting a cheque of TZS 73 billion during the Annual Dividend Day 2025, held at the State House in Dar es Salaam. The event was officiated by Her Excellency President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan and organized by the Treasury Registrar’s Office.

This substantial contribution not only reflects Airtel’s strong financial performance but also reinforces its role as a key partner in national development through a productive and strategic public-private partnership.

Speaking during the event, Her Excellency President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed her appreciation to private sector entities that contributed an estimated TZS 1.28 trillion in dividends this year. She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant business environment that encourages investment and accelerates economic growth.

“I extend my congratulations to all dividend contributors this year. Today’s event emphasizes the commitment of public institutions in advancing Tanzania’s development agenda. This is a clear example of a meaningful public-private partnership in action. Going forward, Annual Dividend Day will be institutionalized to foster stronger, more transparent engagement with the private sector and to promote a business environment that supports sustainable economic growth,” she stated.

Since 2019, Airtel Tanzania Plc and Airtel Money Tanzania Limited have collectively contributed over TZS 280 billion in dividends to the Government. With a 49% government stake in Airtel Tanzania, the company remains a leading example of how private sector partnerships can yield long-term national benefits.

Commenting after the handover, the Chairman of the Board at Airtel Tanzania, Eliudi Sanga, underscored Airtel’s commitment to advancing Tanzania’s socio-economic transformation. “Airtel Tanzania is proud to be a trusted partner in the country’s development journey. Our investments are aligned with the Government’s national priorities, from expanding digital infrastructure to supporting inclusive access and enabling the digital economy,” said Sanga.

Also speaking after the event, Charles Kamoto, Managing Director of Airtel Tanzania, reinforced the company’s mission to enable inclusive growth and digital empowerment.

“Our dividend contribution is a firm statement of our commitment to Tanzania’s sustainable growth. It reflects how alignment between government policy and private sector innovation can drive inclusive progress and fast-track the digital economy,” Kamoto said.
